Counselling

Our counsellors are as diverse as our students. English, Russian, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Farsi are some of the languages amongst them that they are fluent in. They can effectively communicate with parents and support students through the many life transitions they face as they grow into adults. Counsellors promote cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding, bringing everyone involved in a student’s life together to achieve academic and personal growth goals.

Health + MedICAL

Our nursing office is open 6 days a week to attend to minor illness and injuries and organize care in the community as needed. Our full-time nurse provides medical assessment, treatment, and recommendations as well as accompanies students on medical visits. We are also paired with a Public Health Nurse, who provides immunizations to Grade 9 students every year and supports our nursing staff in a continuous manner.

Our Nursing Staff Provides…

Health Services

Just a few steps from campus, a variety of health services are available, such as walk-in clinics, dentists, pharmacies, and physiotherapists. North Vancouver’s Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) is less than 15 minutes away from Bodwell. LGH’s doctors are world class and it is one of five neurosurgery centres in B.C. Bodwell’s private insurance covers all these services for arriving international students for 3 months, after which they are automatically enrolled in the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) which incurs a small monthly fee.

HOMESTAY

To truly understand a different culture, students must completely immerse themselves in it. Homestay students learn about Canadian culture through new foods, customs, & practices while improving their English listening & speaking skills through daily interactions with their host family. Students experience this in a setting of increased independence, privacy, and personal responsibility. Our homestay program ensures that students get placed with reputable, caring families that provide excellent living accomodations to students, with their own private bedrooms and ongoing support from Bodwell.

The Homestay Program is…

Become a Host Family

Becoming a host family has many benefits and not all of them are financial. Hosting a student means you are committed to provide a comfortable, safe, living environment for a member of the Bodwell student body. Students range in age from 12 to 20 years old. We hope through rewarding interactions with your host student, they can learn about the Canadian way of life, as you will learn more about your student’s culture and personality.

All applicants that have submitted applications and have their criminal records checks completed, will be contacted and have a home visit scheduled to ensure accommodations are suitable. If a student is matched to your family, our homestay coordinator will contact you to make the arrangements. If you are hosting students from other schools, we require that there are no more than 3 students in the household.

Grad Details

Having greater self-sufficiency is something Bodwell strives to instill upon each of its students. We help them do so by facilitating connections from within the Bodwell boarding community. As life skills are developed from within the community, students will have a choice after a period of time to pursue one of two distinct paths for their Bodwell student careers.
