Our Admissions staff evaluates academic records from the previous three years, a personal profile, reference letters, an interview, and other demonstrated achievements.

We’ll inform you of our decision within two weeks of completing steps 2 & 3. If accepted, you will need to pay the all associated fees in full to be registered. If you meet our admissions criteria but there is no space available, you will be placed on a wait list. If you are an international students, you must apply for an appropriate visa before.

International Students

To study in Canada, you need to…

Get a Visa.

A student visa is the first step taken for all international students hoping to attend school in Canada. You are advised to apply as early as possible at the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Click here to find a location. Each country has a different process and processing times for student visa application

Get a Permit.

Once you have obtained a student visa from Canada, the Canadian government will issue an approval letter. This letter must be presented when you arrive at Vancouver International Airport or whatever first port of entry into Canada you’ve chosen. Immigration Canada will replace the letter with a “study permit” which will be stapled inside your passport. This is a very important official document that details your length of stay in Canada and must be safeguarded.

Monitor Status.

Your study permit allows you to stay in Canada for a specific length of time. Your studies may push past that length of time in which the Bodwell admissions staff is prepared to assist you in renewing your study permit. Notify them three months before your study permit expires. It remains your and your parents’ responsibility to maintain a legal status in Canada, so be mindful of the dates specified on your study permit in your study plans.

When at Bodwell, we take care of…

Custodianship

International students whose primary residence is outside of Canada must have a Canadian custodian guardian. The Homestay coordinator, Ms. Patrice Mitchell, is the custodian for all Bodwell students living in boarding or a homestay arranged by Bodwell.

3 months of medical

Holders of valid Canadian study permits are entitled to use the British Columbia Medical Service Plan (BCMSP). There is a three month waiting period for BCMSP from initial entrance into Canada which is covered by Bodwell’s private insurance.

Fee Details

(1) All fees are in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes. Click here to see exchange rates.
(2) Bodwell High School is bonded with the British Columbia Ministry of Education.
(3) To register, new students are required to pay all Basic Fees for two terms.
(4) Bodwell provides a Custodianship Declaration for all students under the school’s boarding or homestay programs.
(5) The Tuition fee covers 552 class-hours per term, including 6 hours per day Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays and professional development days), and 3 hours each on 14 Saturdays.
(6) The Boarding Program fee covers a complete youth development program based on our Life Skills Development Curriculum, supervision, professional guidance, study hall (4 evenings/week), leadership & service opportunities, shared accommodation (3-4 students/room), daily buffet breakfast and dinner, set lunch, afterschool snack, bedding and linens, and laundry facilities. The Boarding Program is managed by Bodwell Student Services.
(7) All new students start in boarding. Upon successful completion of the Boarding Program, a student may apply to the Homestay Program.
(8) The Curricular Activities & Clubs fee covers field trips, tournaments, and clubs organized by teachers during or beyond class time. Overnight trips and overseas trips are separately charged on participation.
(9) The Information Technology (IT) fee includes a PC laptop rental, Microsoft Office Suite and other required software, IT support and training, classroom collaboration tools, cloud storage and backup, content filter protection and wireless internet capabilities.

(10) The Damage Deposit covers loss or damage to the laptop, books, musical instruments, and other equipment assigned to a student. It also covers damage to school/homestay properties caused by a student. An invoice will be issued to the parent/guardian of the student with a description of the loss or damage and the amount charged and is payable immediately.
(11) Medical Insurance includes 3 months of Private Insurance followed by the B.C. Medical Services Plan for those on a valid study permit. Coverage varies, please consult for details.
(12) Additional school uniform items are charged on a per item basis.
(13) July Summer Course Fee includes, Tuition, Boarding, Activity, and IT fee.
(14) A Graduation fee is charged during the term when a student is required to participate in graduation activities including ceremony, dinner, trip, yearbook and other souvenirs.
(15) The Homestay Program fee covers room and board provided by a homestay family selected and supervised by Bodwell. Any additional nights of stay will be charged at $53 per night. Hot lunches are provided by the School Cafeteria on all instructional days. It also covers a youth development program, professional guidance, leadership & service opportunities and Bodwell’s regular liaison with the homestay family. The Homestay Program is managed by Bodwell Student Services.
(16) The Airport Pick-up/Drop-off fee is for one trip between the Vancouver Airport and School/homestay family.
(17) After the first two terms, fees are paid term-by-term no less than 60 calendar days before the start of the returning term. Late payment of fees incurs a 5% surcharge.

Refund Policy

Provisional Policy Update

• Any new and returning students who seek to defer their Fall 2020 Term registration to a later term due to COVID-19 can have 100% of their paid fees transferred to a later term. A written request for the deferral must be received by Bodwell on or before August 15, 2020.

• Any new and returning students who seek to cancel their Fall 2020 Term registration can have 100% of their paid fees refunded (except the registration and custodianship fees for new students). A written request for cancellation and refund must be received by Bodwell on or before August 15, 2020.

What are Bodwell’s Admissions Requirements?

Bodwell seeks cultural diversity and students with academic and leadership potential. A minimum 75% average from the most current three years of schooling is expected. Upon arrival students will write an English placement test to determine their English level, and subsequently, the classes in which they will be placed. Students who have already graduated in their home country are eligible to apply. Bodwell accepts students from Grade 8 to 12 who are at least 13 years old up to a maximum of age 18.

When do I apply and how long do I wait for a decision?

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid?

Current students are eligible for scholarships based on their academic performance at Bodwell. Unfortunately, Bodwell does not offer a financial aid program for incoming or continuing students.

ACADEMICS / UNIVERSITY

What kind of curriculum is offered?

Bodwell is accredited and regulated by the British Columbia Ministry of Education and upon graduation, students receive a “Dogwood Diploma”, which is recognized for university admissions worldwide. Bodwell offers a wide variety of required and elective courses as well as a few Advance Placement courses. For more information refer to the Academics page.

How is the academic year structured?

Bodwell accepts applications for the terms of Fall (September), Spring (February) and an optional 1 month Summer session (July). Applications should be submitted as eBodwell runs on a 2 semester system: Fall term (September – Early February), Spring term (Mid February – Late June). An optional July session (4 weeks) can be taken so that a student has the opportunity to complete one additional 4-credit course in the academic year. Students can apply to commence studies in any term. Each term offers five courses and typically a full academic grade can be completed in two terms. Please refer to the School Calendar for important dates.

Do you offer English as a Second Language Courses (ESL)?

We offer a specially designed program for non-native English speakers called the Academic and English Preparation Program (AEP). Based on student’s English level and placement test results, they would be placed in once of Bodwell’s four AEP levels. AEP students work on improving their English skills necessary to succeed in the Regular academic program. Each AEP level takes one term to complete before progressing onward. How do you prepare students for university?

Preparing our students for success in universities and colleges in Canada and overseas is an important objective of the school’s curriculum and University & Career Guidance program. Students take a mandatory personal and career-planning course as well as participate in graduation transition activities. Counsellors and university guidance staff support students in exploring available post-secondary options, applying to the desired institutions, and selecting the most suitable destination. STUDENT LIFE

What is the schedule of a typical school day?

Bodwell seeks cultural diversity and students with academic and leadership potential. A minimum 75% average from the most current three years of schooling is expected. Students wGenerally, students attend classes from 8:15am until 3:30pm, Monday to Thursday, followed by extra-curricular clubs and activities. Friday usually starts up at 9:15 and ends at 3:30pm, followed by clubs and activities. Some school days will have morning or afternoon school assemblies, in which course start times and duration are adjusted, but the day should always end at 3:30pm.

What co-curricular clubs and activities do you offer?

Bodwell accepts applications for the terms of Fall (September), Spring (February) and an optional 1 month Summer session (July). Applications should be submitted as early as possible and no later than four months before each term as space in our classes and boarding facilities are limited. Our Admissions Staff will inform applicants regarding the school’s decision within two weeks of completing the admissions process. If they are offered a place at Bodwell, they will need to pay the fees in full to be registered as a nBodwell students enjoy a wide variety of co-curricular clubs and activities in athletics, academics, fine arts and creative arts. There is also a school-wide activity once per term and field trips as part of classroom learning. It is mandatory to join at least one co-curricular club or activity. Is medical coverage provided to students?

All students are required to have medical insurance during their studies in Canada. Bodwell organizes private insurance for the first three months in Canada followed by British Columbia’s public Medical Services Plan. A school nurse is available onsite for immediate medical assistance during school hours.

How much personal spending money do I need?

Generally, Bodwell recommends $300 – $400 CAD per month for personal spending money. Most students use their parents’ credit cards in Canada. Students are eligible to open a free student banking account in Canada and there will be an opportunity to do so during new student orientation.

Am I given a laptop and necessary software for classes?

Each student at Bodwell is required to pay a per-term technology fee which includes a PC laptop rental, Microsoft Office Suite, IT support, training, classroom collaboration tools, cloud storage and backup, anti-virus software, content filter protection and wireless internet capabilities.

Boarding / Accomodations

What is the boarding program like?

Bodwell is proud to be the only co-educational boarding program in Vancouver. Boarding accommodation includes: a complete youth development program based on Bodwell’s Life Skills Development Curriculum, supervision, professional support, study hall (4 evenings/week), leadership & service opportunities, organized activities, events and outings, weekly clubs, shared accommodation (2 to 6 students/room), daily buffet breakfast and dinner, set lunch, evening snack, bedding and linens, and laundry facilities. What is the homestay program like?

Homestay accommodation with Bodwell’s Canadian families includes: a private bedroom, 2 meals a day on school days (lunch service is provided by Bodwell), and 3 meals a day on weekends and holidays – provided by the host family, organized activities and celebrations, bedding and linens and laundry facilities. Can I go out on my free time?

Vancouver is a safe city and students are allowed to leave campus at the discretion of the school. Students must return home before set curfew times. For overnight stays, a written consent form from parents is required in advance.

What is the meal service like at Bodwell?

There is an on-campus cafeteria, which serves a healthy and multicultural menu daily. Boarding students enjoy three meals a day with an evening snack while homestay students have access to lunch service at the school and eat dinner with their host families.

Can I stay at Bodwell during breaks and holidays?

Bodwell encourages students to spend time with their families during breaks and holidays, however, it is not always possible for students to travel back home during every school break. Boarding facilities are open year-round except for the month of August. During Christmas and New Years as well as April break, students can participate in organized activities, which are included in the boarding accommodation costs. Homestay students coordinate their arrival and departure though Bodwell’s Homestay Coordinator. All regular boarding and homestay rules apply for students staying during breaks and holidays.
